Week 15

As of today, at least 269 people are dead because of the devastating tornadoes that have swept through the South. Jerry Stewart said, "It happened so fast it was unbelievable. They said the storm was in Tuscaloosa and it would be here in 15 minutes. And before I knew it, it was here." Obama is going to be visiting Alabama to analyse the damage done by the tornadoes, and he is also going to come up with ways that the rest of the country can help. The National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center in Oklahoma said it received 137 tornado reports into Wednesday night. Do you think that if a better warnign system had been used, more lives could have been saved? What are some ways Obama could come up with in order to help out the people in the South?

I think there should have been a warning issued earlier to the citizens of the South. This could have saved more lives if the word could have gotten out sooner. Like what Jerry Stewart said, I do not think it was acceptable for people to be notified that a tornado will be reaching them in 15 minutes because they will not have enough time to react. I think Obama could set up charities so that donations of money, clothes, food, etc. can be sent down to the South in order to help those who now have nothing. The president could also set up small organizations of people to go over there and help clean up the debris and possibly begin to rebuild. He could aslo set up some more emergency shelters for people to go to when a tornado is about to hit.

  1. I don't think many lives could have been saved but I think a few would have been saved if better warning systems had been used. I think we need to invest some of the nation's money in better warning systems. Also, I think charities need to be set up to help the people whose lives were affected by the tornadoes.
